Well I've progressed from sticky back plastic and toilet roll tubes to bigger and better things!
Yesterday Charlie and I were doing some more to the patch of wall that was previously hidden by the built in wardrobes that he demolished. Unfortunately the wall is covered in woodchip - evil stuff that should never have been invented! Where the wardrobes were fixed to the wall we now have bare patches of woodchip so we decided to do something about it.
First of all we contemplated searching the loft for a roll that I thought was up there, but Charlie wasn't sure it would stick and didn't seem impressed when I suggested we put it up with No Nails since No Nails sticks everything apparently!
So then we went round the DIY stores to look for a roll that we could buy and thank goodness they don't seem to make it anymore! Charlie stopped me short of celebrating though when he pointed out that we still didn't have a solution to our problem.
So then we went and had another look around the DIY stores (I do like DIY stores, ask my Mum - we used to spend Sunday afternoons mooching round them!) and fell upon the Polycell Smooth Over stuff for textured walls. So a tub of that and a special spreader later and there we were splattering it across our woodchip. Don't believe the advert with that smiley woman who just sweeps it on ... oh if only! I feel like I should have some sort of payment for name dropping brands today!
So we covered a wall, and then came across the dilemma of what to do with the little bit of wall by the window. If we smoothed that too, we'd then have to do the entire wall because it would look odd, and then we'd have to do the entire room so none of it looked odd and that was just getting ridiculously expensive! So in a stupidly insane moment I joked to Charlie that we could always mix some of the hamster's sawdust into some paint or glue and stick it up in the smooth bits where the wardrobe batons used to be ...
... yes before I knew it Charlie was tottering off down the stairs raiding the hamster's sawdust. He came back like a cat with a dead mouse for it's owner clutching an old ice cream tub filled with paint and sawdust and began slopping it on the walls. We worked out that a spreader was no good but the small paintbrush was perfect! And then I took over because I felt all creative and knew I could get the perfect woodchip effect ... and I think I did!
However, just as I'm finishing the last little bit Charlie turns round and says "next time we do it we should put the sawdust in the food blender first to make it smaller" ...
... next time?!!!

I'm soooooo glad that the Sunday afternoons weren't wasted. Can't wait to see the final results. Trust me - it will be all worth it.
